Among other activities, the Performativity Research Centre organises the post-disciplinary summer school in Josefov municipality, Eastern Bohemia, CZ. Co-organised by the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Palacký University in Olomouc, the Department of Theatre Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno and the Institute of Polish Culture at the Faculty of Polish Studies of the University of Warsaw, the first edition of this international event took place in 2017 and was dedicated to the aesthetics and politics of public events. In addition to exploring the relationships between cultural performances, social rituals and the public sphere, participants in the week-long event also took advantage of the opportunities and impulses provided by the unique space of the Baroque Josefov Fortress and people from different countries and professional backgrounds.

This model of several days of intensive collaboration between students, teachers, practitioners and artists has been maintained in subsequent years; in 2018, participants explored the theme of interaction and responsibility in public space; in 2019, the question to address was the role of the university in the present; 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023. In addition to seminars and other activities for the scholarly audience, the Summer School also offers lectures, film screenings, roundtable discussions and artistic performances for the public.

In the three editions of the Josefov Summer School to date, the lecturers leading the seminars and workshops have included sociologist Marta Kolářová, cultural ecologist Arnošt Novák, Linda Kovářová and Pavla Burgos Tejrovská of Anthropictures, Polish artists Alicja Rogalska and Dorota Ogrodska, cultural theorists Dorota Sosnowska and Joanna Kubicka, media theorist Jan Motal, artist and art theorist Václav Magid, members of the Limits Are Us movement Mikuláš Černík and Marika Volfová, and others.

The aim of the Josefov Summer School is to create a safe and free space for students, teachers, professionals, artists and other actors to meet, discuss and study issues relevant to the current post-human and post-factual era, in which the actions of the individual have to be complemented by the collective agency of an empathetic community in order to matter. In the Josefov Summer School, we seek to create a rehearsal space for all kinds of mental and bodily activities that address the instability of the Anthropocene and allow participants, and the Josefov community, to engage with it productively.
